Shooting at Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl rally results in one killed and at least twenty-one injured

Following a celebration for the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl victory, a shooting occurred at Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri, on Wednesday afternoon that left one person dead and up to 21 others—including children—injured, according to officials.

A mother of two by the name of Lisa Lopez, a disc jockey for Kansas City radio station KKFI, was revealed to have perished in the violence that ensued after the procession.

We would want to inform our community that KKFI DJ Lisa Lopez, the host of Taste of Tejano, passed away tonight in the shooting at the KC Chiefs rally. We do it with deep regret and a heavy heart. Her family has our deepest sympathies and prayers."

"This senseless act has taken a beautiful person from her family and this KC Community," said the message.

The woman who was shot has not yet been identified by the police. While law enforcement conducts their investigation, the exact number of victims from this shooting is still being determined.

During the second press conference of the day, Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves announced that three individuals had been taken into custody by the officers, bringing the total number of suspects hauled in to two.

She added that during a foot pursuit with police, one person was apprehended.

"What happened today infuriates me," Graves had declared earlier in the evening. "The people who came to this celebration should expect a safe environment."

"This is not Kansas City," she said as the press conference came to a conclusion.

President Biden declared, "The Super Bowl is the most unifying event in America." "It pierces the heart of an American to see this happiness transformed into sadness in Kansas City today. The events of today ought to shock, move, and embarrass us into taking action.

"Today was supposed to be a day of celebration and joy in Kansas City," Vice President Kamala Harris continued. Rather, it's just another day of needless gun violence in America. This isn't how things have to be.

Although the exact number of supporters in attendance is still unknown, NPR member station KCUR reported that almost a million people flocked to the rally's downtown during the previous year's victory parade.

Eight hundred law enforcement personnel were on hand for the march on Wednesday, Graves said, in anticipation of the large throng that was expected. According to her, the significant police presence aided in both helping gunshot victims receive life-saving care and directing spectators to safety after the gunfire started.

Graves claimed that the shooting began immediately following the conclusion of the parade protest, west of Union Station. Social media users posted videos of the incident, which showed thousands of people fleeing Union Station as police arrived.

There were lots of families present.
Twelve people from the event were admitted to Children's Mercy Hospital, nine of them had gunshot wounds, according to KCUR. The victims' ages could not be immediately verified by Fire Chief Ross Grundyson. However, at a press conference, physicians and officials from Children's Mercy attested to the fact that they provided care for the kids. They were six to fifteen years old.

At the news conference on Wednesday, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas mentioned that he had considered inviting his own child to the festivities. He mentioned that his mother and wife were also there for the march.

Lucas claimed, "I ran for safety, like many others did, when the shooting started."

The mayor expressed his anger in a statement to the citizens of the city.

A lot of individuals look forward to this day, which they will always remember. The possibility of gun violence ruining a day like today and hurting them and their families is something they shouldn't have to worry about," he stated.
