"Extreme Cold": A winter storm is expected to batter a large portion of the US

 

A powerful winter storm is set to sweep across a vast swath of the United States bringing extreme cold, heavy snowfall, icy conditions, and dangerous travel disruptions. Forecasters are warning that the system could impact millions of people from the Plains and Midwest to the Northeast, with temperatures plunging well below seasonal averages and life-threatening conditions possible in some areas.

According to meteorologists the storm is being fuelled by a surge of Arctic air pushing southward from Canada. This frigid air mass is expected to collide with moisture-laden weather systems, creating ideal conditions for widespread snow, freezing rain, and bitterly cold winds. Wind chills in some regions could drop to dangerously low levels, raising serious concerns for health and safety.

Drivers are being advised to carry emergency supplies, including blankets, food, water, and fully charged mobile phones, in case they become stranded.
