When we think of diabetes, we usually picture adults managing insulin injections, strict diets, and regular blood tests. Rarely do we imagine that a tiny newborn, wrapped in a blanket in a hospital cot, could already be living with this condition. While most of these cases stabilise after birth, some infants may continue to struggle with glucose regulation. Early diagnosis can make a huge difference. If neonatal diabetes is detected quickly, doctors can begin treatment immediately, often with insulin or specialised medication.
