Anne Hathaway Would Rather See the Knicks Win Another Championship Than Win a Second Oscar

Anne Hathaway Would Rather See the Knicks Win Another Championship Than Win a Second Oscar

Anne Hathaway has made it clear just how much the New York Knicks mean to her. During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Oscar-winning actress was presented with a difficult choice: win another Academy Award or watch the Knicks win another NBA championship. After an emotional pause, Hathaway chose the Knicks.

The surprising answer came during a game called “Best Thing Ever,” in which host Jimmy Fallon asked Hathaway to choose between two things she values. While some of the earlier choices were relatively light-hearted, the Oscar-versus-Knicks question clearly struck a much deeper nerve.

Hathaway took a moment before making her decision and ultimately chose another Knicks championship. She then joked about how intense the choice had been, saying that the way her nervous system was reacting made the decision particularly difficult.

The moment was especially entertaining because Hathaway is a longtime and passionate Knicks fan. Her connection to the team has become an increasingly popular part of her public persona, particularly after the release of The Devil Wears Prada 2. The film included a scene involving Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns, and the team's subsequent winning streak inspired fans and entertainment outlets to jokingly suggest that Hathaway was a good-luck charm.

Fallon also surprised Hathaway during the programme with a Knicks jersey signed by OG Anunoby. The actress immediately put the jersey on, showing just how excited she was about the unexpected gift. The Knicks also sent a collection of baby gifts and a card signed by Anunoby. Hathaway became visibly emotional and delighted by the gesture.

Her choice is notable because Hathaway already has one of Hollywood's biggest individual honours. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Fantine in Les Misérables at the 2013 Oscars. She had previously received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for Rachel Getting Married.

Hathaway's career remains busy, with her appearance on Fallon also serving as promotion for her upcoming film Verity. The psychological thriller, based on Colleen Hoover's bestselling novel, stars Hathaway alongside Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett and is scheduled for release on October 2, 2026.

Meanwhile, the Knicks enter the new NBA season as defending champions after ending a 53-year championship drought. Reuters reported that the team has returned to work with much of its championship roster intact as it prepares to defend its title.

For Hathaway, however, the choice between another Oscar and another Knicks title was ultimately clear. Her playful answer offered fans another glimpse of the actress's strong connection to New York basketball—and turned an ordinary late-night interview into a memorable entertainment moment.
